Reggae Covers: Bongo Man Byefield – Bongo Man (Sam Cooke – Wonderful World)

Posted on Updated on

Fantastic. Utterly perfect. Completely riffing off of the 1960 Sam Cooke original (known to you and me as ‘Wonderful World‘), released in 1966 by the enigmatic Bongo Man Byefield.

Don’t know much about mush melon
Don’t know much about Babylon
Don’t know much about the Europeans
Don’t know much about the Philistines
All I know I’m a Bongo Man
And if you take I back to Bongo Land
What a wonderful man I will be

Don’t know much about the lazy men
Don’t know much about the wrong they done
Don’t know much about migration
Don’t know much about politician
All I know I’m a Bongo Man
And if you take I back to Bongo Land
What a wonderful man I will be

For I don’t want a European baby
No matter how hard she try
If I should take a European baby
She could not do it the Bongo way

Don’t know much about Kennedy
All I hear he was the remedy
Don’t know much about Lee Oswald
Don’t know much about Jack Ruby

All I know I’m a Bongo Man
And if you take I back to Bongo Land
What a wonderful man I will be.

[Repeat last 3 verses]
