Man did I ever play the hell out of this LP in my college days. Picked up during one of my visits home to New Orleans, this disc hit all my hot spots. So much funk, all so tightly woven; rhythms upon rhythms, haunted by Aaron Neville’s unique vocal style. The Neville Brothers are forces of nature wherever they alight, from their solo creations to the countless sessions in support of a never-ending stream of artists of global renown. When you get them all together in one studio though, around their own music, the result is something entirely transcendent. Bonus live version here featuring John Hiatt.
Oh, yellow moon, yellow moon, yellow moon
Have you seen that creole woman?
You can tell me
Oh, now ain’t you a friend of mine?
With your eye so big a shiny
You can see the whole damn land
Yellow moon, can you tell me
If the girl’s with another man?
