A Buddhist who does not follow Buddhist principles self-disqualifies from being or being considered a Buddhist. Now, the Burmese State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee has announced the incompatibility of the views of U Wirathu and his “969 Movement”

The Irawaddy reports that the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee issued an order August 14 “that it is illegal to form monk networks organized around the principles of the 969 movement, and bars linking the 969 emblem to the Buddhist religion.” (“969” refers to the 9 special qualities of the Buddha, the 6 of the dharma, and the 9 of the sangha.)

It was for the Burmese sangha to clean house, so to speak. Those who incite or commit acts of violence in the name of the Buddha are not Buddhists. Rather, they are nothing but unprincipled hooligans in stained robes.
