Cheryl Wheeler – Summer Fly

A great vocal performance from US folk mainstay Cheryl Wheeler’s second album, 1987’s ‘Half A Book.’ She has a great sense of rhythm and has one of those voices that lands BAM out of nowhere like a Sugar Ray Leonard left. Fans of contemporary folk & country may hear a familiar echo in the work of Utah-born, Alaska-raised country-folk singer Jewel.

A summer fly was buzzin’ every night when I was young
In the gentle world my child-like senses knew
And the world was just my cousin and the wind was just the tongue
In the voice my lonely moments listened to
