Blues Busters – Shame & Scandal

Posted on Updated on

One of the funniest island songs ever. I played this for Miss Judy –the kids’ caregiver in Grenada (and Children’s Program teacher at Grenada Montessori Prep)– and she fell out laughing; begged me to make her a CD with this song on it (which of course I did).

Woe, misery (chorus)
Shame and scandal in the family
Woe, misery
Shame and scandal in the family

In Jamaica there was a family
With much confusion as you will see
It was a momma and a papa and a boy who was grown
Who wanted to marry and have wife of his own
He found a young girl suited him nice
So he went to his papa to ask his advice
His papa said: “Son, I have to say no,
That girl is your sister, but your momma don’t know”

(chorus)

So a week went by and the summer came round
Soon the best cook in the island he found
He went to his papa to make a day
The papa turn to him and to him he did say
“You Can’t marry this girl. I have to say no.
That girl is your sister, but your momma don’t know.”

(chorus)

So he went to his momma and he covered his head
And told his momma what his papa had said
His momma she laughed, she says: “Go man, go
Your daddy ain’t your daddy, but your daddy don’t know.”

It also happens to be a world-class skank.
